Due to insistence of his Philippine National Police (PNP) security escorts to bring their firearms inside the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, detained Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Chairman Nur Misuari failed yesterday to join for Friday prayers a special envoy of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

Dr. Mohammad Nabil Bokharre, charge d’affaires of the royal embassy, said OIC Ambassador Sayyed Kassem El-Masry had requested the Philippine government to allow Misuari to perform prayers with him at the Saudi mission.

However, when the MNLF chairman’s two escorts insisted on carrying their guns inside, Bokharre did not allow them as no one is allowed to have guns inside the embassy.

Misuari’s service vehicle, with his PNP escorts, was already inside the embassy compound, but they were not allowed to enter the building.
Major Gen. Ben Mohammad Dolorfino, chief of the military’s National Capital Region Command, and PNP Chief Supt. Sukarno Ikbala called up the responsible PNP officers to intercede and guarantee the MNLF’s safety.

Dolorfino and Ikbala failed to convinced them. Misuari and his religious adviser, Ustadhz Abu Harris Usman (no relation with this writer), who was already in the embassy prayer room, left the embassy at the middle of prayers. (EKU)
